Rascal
|
Although thankful for no loss of human life when his home was devastated by a fire, Stewart would not accept that his Orange Wing Amazon parrot was lost in the blaze. He and his family hoped that the bird had managed to escape the flames somehow. Stewart contacted Pet Line and "Rascal" was entered into the lost & found search program. The family posted signs and ran newspaper ads offering a large reward. Weeks passed and there was no sign of Rascal. The ads ran out and the signs fell down, and hope was dwindling.
Nearly a month later, Pet Line received a call from a young man who had information on a green parrot of some type, found in Merrick some 15 miles away (as the parrot flies). Rascal's owners were contacted, and we hoped that we had not gotten their hopes up for nothing.
It was, indeed, Rascal. Wounded and weary, we will never know the ordeal this bird endured. All that matters is that his family had hope, and someone was kind enough to call the Pet Line hotline. This pet is lucky to be back with his family, temporarily in a new home until the old one can be rebuilt. We wish Rascal and his family, a healthy, and happier new year!
